One of the biggest theories that we hear while servicing machines is that the candy in the machine has to be at least 20 years old. This theory for Sauer Vending machines is just not true! Our machines are serviced depending on the volume of product that each separate location goes through some host locations are needed to be serviced every month some every two months, some every 3-5 months some only need to be serviced every 8 months. We never let a location go any longer than 8 months with out checking on the quality of the product and the cleanliness of the machine. Most host locations help out by wiping down the outside of the machines with their normal cleaning operations. The average life of the hard candy and gum in the machines has a shelf/machine life of up to 2 years. We only fill the machines with the amount of candy or gum that we estimate on the host location selling between our servicing visits. This is due to a method taught in Food Service Certification Course. The method is called FIFO or First in First out. The FIFO method assumes that the oldest products in a company’s inventory are sold first.

We sanitize with Bio-Cide 100 which is highly effective against Covid-19 and Kills 99.9” of Bacteria and Viruses.

The story of Ford Gum began in 1913.

Ford Gum

Ford Mason, a 20-year-old roofing salesman, spent spring, summer and early fall traveling by horse and buggy over the winding country roads of western New York State. He was idle during the winter because nobody repaired barn roofs in cold weather.
Looking for work that winter, Ford met a man engaged in the business of operating chewing gum vending machines. The first machine had been invented only a few years before, and just a handful of entrepreneurs had ventured into the business.
Ford was impressed. He borrowed the money to lease 102 machines and placed them in stores and shops in western New York communities. Ford spent the winter collecting pennies and restocking machines.

“It was fun”, Ford recalls, “to try to figure out which locations would be the most productive.”

He went back to the roofing business each April, but every winter Ford resurrected his gum business. As Ford gained more experience, he was convinced that the penny gum ball could support him.

Unfortunately, the new industry was disreputable. Most gum machine operators were more interested in making money than satisfying customers. Vending machine gum was of such poor quality that most people would buy once and never again. Machines often took coins without dispensing merchandise.

Ford realized that success meant giving customers their money’s worth. Here was a challenge that intrigued the young man and roused his sense of decency. Ford quit the roofing business and devoted all his energy to selling gum.

Today, Ford Gum is a leader in the manufacture and distribution of gum balls and gum ball machine banks as well as a private label manufacturer of assorted confections and health-related products for leading American brands.

One of Ford Gum’s signature products is Big League Chew®, the iconic shredded bubble gum brand. It is the #1 shredded bubble gum brand in the world, with over 800 million pouches sold.
